Atlas Genius - When It Was Now (13/04/2013)
Adelaide's indie rockers Atlas Genius have seemingly all of a sudden burst onto the scene with their new single If So. Having formed just two years ago they have already embarked on a tour of America following the release of their EP Through The Glass and have now released their debut album When It Was Now.
The album kicks off with a track called Electric and it really sums up the song perfectly. It starts with almost a minute of catchy electro-rock music before vocalist Keith Jeffery kicks in with a track that truly gets stuck in your head and the definite stand out song.
Next up is the single If So, one that Triple M have been plugging a lot lately and it isn't hard to see why. A great little indie song and with emotional lyrics like “and they do what they want to cause any kind of feeling is alright” it isn't hard to tell what the meaning on the song is.
Track number four is the song Trojans, which has over a million views on You Tube and has been a huge hit in the US. The meaning of the song however seems tough to decipher as some seem to think it's about lost love, others say it is a song Jeffery's wrote after a fight with his girlfriend after a good day, whatever it may be it is a great track and another stand out from the record.
Through The Glass is another track with brilliantly touching lyrics “and we're dressed up like humans like we know who we are. This map won't get you home if you don't know where you are.”
The second last track on the album is the title track When It Was Now which is another song that sticks with you well after the album has finished for its catchy beats and rhythms and then we reach the final track Symptoms and thus brings to an end a great album by a band to definitely watch for the future. While the subject matter of a lot of the songs seem quite dark, touching and emotional the album is one full of songs that get stuck in your head and have toe-tapping beats. If you want some new Aussie indie-rock to listen to then this is the one to go for.
