Blake Shelton - Based on a True Story (14/06/2013)
Blake Shelton has shown himself to be the kind, rational judge on US television show The Voice. The gentle giant with a heart of gold has thrust country music back into the spotlight with his seemingly wholesome image on air. But his new album, Based on a True Story, shows a cheeky, naughtier side to Blake.
The album paints a very vivid picture with its song lyrics and makes you feel like you could taste the pretty pink lemonade shooters or smell the watermelon candles burning. The way Blake sings his songs makes you feel a connection to the people he sings about and gives you a sense that you are in the room with them.
The first track, Boys ‘Round Here, makes it clear that living the small town country life is about ice cold beer, trucks and girls.
Blake’s powers of seduction are on show in My Eyes where he declares “come a little closer, love the way you look tonight. My eyes are the only thing I don’t wanna take off you”, ensuring every female listening to the song is picturing that they are this mystery girl in the sun dress wearing the turquoise jewellery.
Still Got a Finger is a tongue-in-cheek tune about working too hard and a lack of appreciation from the boss that makes the singer give him the one finger salute.
In Ten Times Crazier, Blake sings of his love fast cars, football, guitars, Friday nights and good times but he’s ten times crazier about his girl.
He does not hide what seems to be a genuine love for women and while he says you can find him between a hottie and a nice cold beer, he actually seems to have an appreciation for the female form. The few love songs of the album are written and sung with such finesse that Blake’s softer side shines through his larrikin exterior.
Can I get a yee-ha?
