Frightened Rabbit - Pedestrian Verse (04/07/2013)
A tumult of northern charm and musical originality, ‘Pedestrian Verse’ is a true addition to the onslaught of Scottish genius. Frightened Rabbit have attuned themselves to a fantastic blend of European folk and fuzzy rock.
With every track on Pedestrian Verse, a fan is blessed with a new and honest song that speaks to the heart of human experience. Accompanied by atmospheric piano and jutting guitars, one can expect to never find a dull moment across the 12 track album.
The gorgeous voice of lead singer Scott Hutchinson adds an element of charm and excitement to the band that no one but a Scotsman could create. When listening to it, a listener feels like they’re a part of some inside joke yet, understands the solemnity of the jest as well. It’s a truly unique experience and one that no music fan would wish to miss out on.
Opening track ‘Acts of Man’ is one such song that features Frightened Rabbit’s distinct brand of music. The mixture of slightly ambiguous lyrics, rhythmic piano and a delayed guitar that listeners can only expect to hear from bands in their cold corner of the world is nothing short of incredible.
When such a song as ‘Dead Now’ is an addition to any album, it is abhorrently difficult to conceive of saying a bad word against it. ‘Dead Now’ is so honest, catchy, brave and gritty you simply can’t hate it. The fuzzy guitar solo that seems to burst forth out of nowhere is a mark of pure genius and says that this cohort is going nowhere but up from here.
Other singles form the album such as ‘The Woodpile’ and ‘Backyard Skulls’ are the cherries atop one of the tastiest and most well crafted cakes you’ve ever eaten. The album is littered with tracks that sets you in a hopeful and thought provoking world, the feeling is hard to do justice with words, it has to be felt.
The only band that can conjure such a thought is Frightened Rabbit. One suggestion for any music fan from whatever genre base, get ‘Pedestrian Verse’, it is absolutely biblical.
