Guy Pearce @ The Toff In Town, Melbourne (12/11/2014)
For some reason, the idea of an actor kicking off a career in the music industry raises doubtful eyebrows. History has however been kind to those who've made the transition from movie to rock star, with Hugh Laurie, Kevin Bacon, and even David Lynch amassing praise for their unsuspected talents.
Launching his debut record 'Broken Bones' to a sold out audience, Guy Pearce delighted us with his eclectic and unique tunes, proving that he's a man of many talents. After crowd warming sets up Dancing Heals and Emma Anglesey, the Toff's velvet curtain drew open to reveal a solo Pearce, who took a seat at a piano and eased into the set slowly with 'Broken Bones'. Earning rapturous applause for the first song, Pearce's band joined him on stage for the remained of the set, which was nothing short of mesmerising. |
Simply put, Pearce is a spectacular musician. There's a genuine sense of patience and perfection in his performance, which is complimented wonderfully by his witty and relaxed interaction with the audience. His live debut may have been a long time in the making, but it has been well and truly worth the wait.
