Killswitch Engage - Disarm The Descent (11/05/2013)
When it was announced that Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones had left the band last year it left fans wondering what was next. Do they go for a brand new vocalist? Do they break up? Or do they go for original vocalist Jesse Leach? The band decided to go with the latter (to the delight of many) and have now released Disarm The Descent, their first studio album in four years and first with Jesse since 2002's Alive or Just Breathing.
The album, which was produced by former drummer and now guitarist for the band, Adam Dutkiewicz starts off with The Hell In Me which features an incredible scream by Jesse to start the song and it's not hard to see why they went back to him. The power in his voice is just phenomenal and the track gets the album off to a brilliant start.
Track two Beyond The Flames starts with some brilliant drumming and guitar before Jesse kicks in and you could be forgiven for thinking that Howard was back for parts of the song as the vocals style in parts are quite similar. In Due Time, the leading single from the album is one of the stand outs for it's catchy music, rocking riffs and brutal vocals. A thing Killswitch Engage fans have come to love.
It's difficult to not continue to talk about just incredible the vocals are on this album, especially having already listened to it about five or six times in the past few days and as the album continues on you start to hear exactly why. It's almost like Jesse never left the band the way it all gels together. It is a brutal, in your face and all sorts of amazing and also shows a softer side to the band in Always, the second last song on the album. A hauntingly beautiful track. The lyrics on this song are possibly the best on the album “I am with you always, from life until death takes me” sums it up.
Disarm The Decent is an album sure to feature in many a best of 2013 list and shows just why Killswitch Engage are one of the best metal bands in the world right now.
