Lester The Fierce – Lester The Fierce (20/12/2013)
This self-titled EP from Melbourne band Lester The Fierce is an eccentric mix of abstract pop tunes that I find most inspiring for Anita Lester’s stunning, unique vocals.
Lead single Howl is strong in both vocals and lyrical content, and is one of the better songs on this EP. It holds your interest and is generally well-structured, while also managing to be captivating. Second song Bird is both haunting and happy, the former for its vocals and the latter for its instrumental arrangement.
Colours maintains a steady rhythm throughout, though January picks up this EP’s pace again. Final track Volcano is a standout, both for its lyrical content and its arrangement.
Overall this EP is worth a listen, but I find it’s not something I’ll be coming back to time and time again.
