Lowrider - Black Stones (25/05/2013)
Low Rider is an Aussie R&B band formed in 2004 and their latest album Black Stones can only be described as “Funky”.
The first song Days of Boredom is very upbeat and is very keyboard heavy with a definite soul influence. It’s not my favourite song of theirs, but is a very impressive showing of Joseph Braithwaite’s vocal capacity and a bold start to the Album.
Golden Sun is a neat little song with nice harmonies to break up the verses and the chorus. This song is upbeat, yet calm. It works much nicer on the ears than Days of Boredom.
The introduction to Bet on a Miracle is very base heavy. The base and vocals throughout the song complement each other very well.
The instrumental skill of John Braithwaite (Joseph’s brother) is show cased in This City.
The Pay Day is another bold song. The more relaxed songs suit Low Rider much better, this song doesn’t work.
What does work John’s high vocals in Day Time Tripping. This song is really catchy and probably the highlight of the album.
All in all, Low Rider have delivered another solid album with lots of soul and pizazz.
It would be the perfect CD to play on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
