Marcel Gadacz - Dream On, Dreamer (21/01/2014)
Dream On, Dreamer is nothing but a powerhouse for modern metalcore. Since their beginning, the band has been pushing boundaries and only going up. They have toured with countless influential bands and continue to do so. They have stormed festivals around the world and show no sign of slowing down.
The band was recently added to the Soundwave Festival 2014 dates and lead vocalist Marcel Gadacz spoke with The 59th Sound about their upcoming appearances at Soundwave.
"I moved to Australia about six years or so ago from Germany," Marcel explains. "I'd always had this dream of learning a second language and playing in a band. And back home I didn't really have the people around me to do that with as it's a different lifestyle. Everyone had just finished school and they were starting jobs and what not. There were no opportunities to start and build a band like you would in the US or Australia. And I had always been interested in the Australian lifestyle and culture having had friends go over here for exchange student opportunities. So I packed my backpack and came here to start a new life."
With Soundwave just around the corner, Marcel is keen to once again hit the touring circuit once again.
"Last time we had just finished up a month tour in America and Japan and we just jumped straight into Soundwave. Brisbane was the first show and there was this sea of people in front of us and we were so nervous! It went so well, there were people watching us everyday. We were playing at the same time as You Me At Six and I would prefer to go see them, a band I don't normally get to see as much so that surprised us." The singer reflects fondly."Soundwave this year going to be amazing. It's the best festival to be on in Australia and we can't wait to play it."
As anyone knows, it isn't all about playing the dates, it's also the performers' chance at seeing their long time idols and heroes and Marcel is no exception!
"I'm a huge Deftones fan so getting to see Chino's other side project Crosses is going to be huge thing for me something I can definitely cross that off my list! I also can't wait to see Green Day. I wouldn't say I love Green Day as much anymore but I mean I don't know anyone who didn't like Dookie. For me that was like the starting point of when I got into music personally so that will be huge for me."
"There's so many different genres everyone should be pleased. No matter what you listen to, Soundwave has it and it's the most diverse a lineup can get.
I don't why anyone would say anything bad about it to be honest. I don't see why, what else do you want. There's so many great bands!"
Being an Australian festival, Soudnwave's line-up this year features more Australian bands than ever before. "It gives so many local bands the spread and audience they wouldn't normally get." Marcel says positively on the topic. "I think it gives us the opportunity to expose ourselves to a wide range of genres and that's what these festivals can do for us. So kudos to the organisers!"
