Stone Sour - House of Gold and Bones Part One (24/02/2013)
Stone Sour's fourth album House of Gold and Bones Part 1 is the first of a double album. Gone Sovereign kicks things off in great style. A catchy guitar riff and Corey Taylor's powerful vocals are the stand outs. The little silence after Corey sings “Is anybody here still left alive?” before Roy Mayorga kicks in on drums, this song certainly kicks the album off to a brilliant start.
Absolute Zero, the second single from the album, steps things up again. It has everything fans have come to love from Stone Sour, great music, great lyrics and Corey's brilliant voice. Corey Taylor has to be one of the best, most powerful rock/metal vocalists of all time and this album doesn't disappoint in that department, with the third song A Rumour of Skin continues to prove that.
The Travellers Pt. 1 takes things down a bit, and is a lovely, mellow little song with acoustic guitars and definitely shows the softer side of Stone Sour. Just a couple of songs later we get the track Ru486 which could almost be a Slipknot song. It is by far the heaviest track off the album, and for this reviewer, the absolute stand out.
Taciturn is another beautiful song, starting out acoustic before the band kicks in later in the track it truly shows off the bands ability to pull together a masterful track, something I don't think they would have been able to accomplish much earlier in their career, it shows how much they have bonded and matured not only as musicians but as a band.
The Travellers Pt. 2 continues from where part 1 left off and Last of The Real end things on a rocking high for the first part of this double concept album and with the second part due very shortly it's safe to say we all keenly wait to hear it. For a while there it felt like Stone Sour where just known as “the singer of Slipknot's other band” but with this album they are finally getting the recognition they deserve. Well, it's about bloody time!
